Some automotive experts say strategically placing magnets underneath the hood of you car can improve gas mileage.

Greensboro -- If you are tired of pumping your paycheck into your gas tank, placing magnets underneath the hood of your car could help you get more mileage out of your vehicle.
"This is not something new," explained Clyde Cummings, who runs Cummings Auto Service in Greensboro. "It's been around for years, but not to the degree that they have it now."
Over the past 20 years, Cummings says magnetic technology has improved. "They're the strongest magnets I've seen for the size," said Cummings. Three months ago, he decided to test a magnet kit that was supposed to improve gas mileage. "After about three tanks of fuel, it started improving. So far, it's averaging about 10 percent more mileage."
Douglas Ernst developed Fuel buster, a magnet kit similar to the one Cummings installed on his truck. "I am putting a magnet of a certain polarity over the fuel supply line, the air intake line and the coolant line," explained Ernst. "What it is going to do is make the fuel burn better in the engine." He says that improves gas mileage. "We average between a 15-20 percent increase."
Ernst says magnet kits only work if they are installed properly. He says drivers will probably have to fill-up four times before they start to see improved gas mileage. "We have over a 95 percent success rate," he said.
Cummings says he plans to sell magnet kits available to customers. For more information about Fuel buster, click here. The magnet kits retail for $100-$125.
